Regional Community
Austin is home to the very first Burning Man Regional Event, Burning Man Texas, that took place in June, 1998. In 1999, the event was renamed Burning Flipside and the date moved to Memorial Day (which is the traditional beginning of summer, the “flipside” of Labor Day). The first event had 30 people, whereas 2490 tickets were sold for the 2024 event. Burning Flipside is the only official Burning Man Regional event in Texas and has been held almost every year since its inception, excluding 2020 and 2021.
The theme for Burning Flipside 2025 is "Deep in the Art of Texas." The ticket window will be open from January 6-27th. Please keep an eye on official channels for updates and information: https://www.burningflipside.com/
Central Texas has a very active year-round community. Burning Flipside runs a warehouse in central Austin that hosts weekly social gatherings (“Church Night”), and is often home to art nights, workshops, fundraisers, donation drives, art shows, classes, and other community nourishing events. The warehouse (affectionately named “Lloyd”) is open to the community, regardless of “event” affiliation- through the fall and spring, effigy teams from several events can be found planning and building several times a week.
