Are you passionate about Burning Man culture and connecting with your local community? Becoming a Regional Contact (RC) is an exciting opportunity to bring the spirit of Burning Man into your everyday life and help your local Burning Man community thrive, create, and connect year-round.

Why Step In?

  • Weave Community: Build vibrant, creative, inclusive communities that embody the Burning Man spirit and ethos all year long.

  • Grow Alongside Others: Deepen your leadership skills, build meaningful relationships, and be of real service.

  • Be Part of a Global Movement: Join a worldwide network of passionate humans tending culture far beyond the playa.

What Makes a Great Regional Contact?

Regional Contacts are collaborative people who care deeply, show up consistently, help others do the same, and are grounded in Burning Man’s culture and values. Great RCs tend to:

  • Communicate clearly and listen actively
  • Play well with others, and sometimes help organize when needed
  • Stay open-minded, welcome differences, and adapt to the unexpected
  • Have a passion for helping others connect and thrive
  • Lead with integrity and curiosity, showing up without ego

How Regional Contacts Are Found

Each region is unique, and so is the way leaders emerge. Some Regional Contacts come through open calls. Others step in through community-centered processes grounded in local culture. No matter the path, each RC is invited into the role with intention and care.

No matter the approach, our goals are the same:

  • Effective community stewards who are rooted in trust and action
  • Processes that invite more community voices and lighten the administrative lift
  • Flexibility to fit each community’s unique needs and reduce search and onboarding time

The Regional Network team is prototyping different approaches to fit local contexts.

The selection process may include:

  • Assessing Needs: We collaborate with local leaders to identify areas where support is needed and determine the qualities that would best serve the region.
  • Invite In: Some searches are open; others begin through referrals or community nominations.
  • Listen Deeply: We gather confidential feedback from the local community to inform the selection.
  • Reflections: We and a team of community members consider applications, feedback, and interview candidates.
  • Welcome In: We and the team of community members make the final decision.
  • Onboarding: New RCs sign the Volunteer Regional Contact Agreement and complete an online orientation. Some may also be paired with a mentor.
