Texas - El Paso (Border Burners of El Paso & Las Cruces)

Regional Community

“You don't have to go to Burning Man to be a burner”

We are artists, activists and soccer parents. We are looking for more than mainstream, corporate-sponsored events. We represent and assist just about anyone in the El Paso/ Las Cruces area who celebrates diverse points of view; and radical, artistic self-expression.

Many of us go to the annual Burning Man event in Nevada; many of us remember going; and many of us dream of going.

But the Burning Man culture and ethos is less and less about going to the regionals or even Burning Man; and more and more about being a "burner-at-heart".

We've got well over 450 burners-at-heart on our local email announce list. Building and using this network is the most powerful tool we have for building a community of Border Burners.

This network is also a great way to stay connected with those who do travel to burner events such as regional burns and decompressions. We coordinate rideshares to Burning Man, playa art projects for those that want to share their creativity, and, we teach playa virgins how to best prepare for a week in the desert.

We help alert you to ticket sales when they come up, and most importantly, we help coordinate ticket sales within our region as they become available.

During the late spring and summer every year, we host a Border Burner meet and greet about every six weeks (more often as we get closer to August) to help answer questions and let first time Burners get their questions answered.

If you're interested in traveling to one of the great Regional Burns in our area, we also coordinate rideshares & other resources for great events such as Saguaro Man in Arizona, Youtopia in San Diego Flipside in Austin and Sunburn in New Mexico. We don't have our own Regional Burn here … yet!

We also try to stay connected here at home. We have had Burning Man documentary showings in El Paso and Las Cruces. We are also here to help establish community art projects, and help apply for funding grants whenever possible.

Subscribe to the Announce List and get announcements about upcoming Border Burners events; AND get posts from other list members about relevant events and activities; AND you can post your own events announcements to the rest of the community.(Send a blank email to elpaso-announce+subscribe@burningman.org)

Go to our facebook page and become a friend! Also, take a look at our YouTube site: borderburners to see a short video of some of our local burners and friends on the playa. We wil be adding more video shorts for your further enjoyment so stay tuned.
