Australia - Canberra
Regional Community
Despite being Australia's Capital City and the seat of Federal Parliament, Canberra is a young and progressive city, a hive of artistic expression, social and environmental activism, and home to a group of diverse and talented Burners and a thriving arts and event scene.
Due to its location, Canberra is a central hub for regional NSW neighbouring areas and captures and includes Burners living in the smaller regional pockets from South Eastern Coastal NSW to the NSW Alpine region looking to connect. There is a strong activism stream in our region; we speak out strongly for social justice, inclusivity and diversity, direct action movements and environmental protection.
We also a have a newly formed local NFP Burner Entity, The Capital Incendiary Authority Inc. (C.I.A). The Capital Incendiary Authority is a volunteer-run association supporting the Canberran burner community and is focused on community building through art, events, and environmental projects.
We also have a local Mircroburn! The Canberra Burners Winter Solstice annual microburn event is held each year around the Winter Solstice. It is a burn event based on the Burning Man Project ethos and 10 Principles and was was started in 2014 by the ACT regional contacts as a way to nurture and share burn culture locally and has evolved through community participation from its humble beginnings as a community and theme camp fundraiser to a microburn in its own right. Proceeds from this small yet popular event are returned to the community via C.I.A as an annual art grants program to develop, promote and support local art, music, workshops, and training activities in an environmentally sustainable way to encourage the growth of our community and promote the Burning Man 10 Principles through public engagement.
The Capital Incendiary Authority Inc is part of the Burning Man Regional Network and works alongside other Burning Man organizations and events in line with the Burning Man 10 Principles.
We have a diverse group of local burners from a broad range of backgrounds, ages, and perspectives, and consider diversity a strength in our community, so we welcome all new participants with open arms! There is no barrier to your participation in our community.
Get amongst it and come along to one of our regular Burning Pub or Burning Park meet-ups to connect.
