Nevada – Reno

Greetings from your Reno Regional Contacts: Danielle “Gemini” Gann-Lind, Rod Coleman and Dale Weber. Reno and the surrounding communities of Northern Nevada and Northeast California are the Gateway To Burning Man. We like to think of ourselves as ‘Backyard Burners’. Reno has a great and ever growing Burner Community, with events happening all year round.

2024 is starting off with a bang! We're looking forward to our Town Hall in early April, once again at the Generator. We will again spotlight multiple art projects destined for playa, local happenings, interaction with local groups and shared art grant opportunities. The Generator is continuing to offer educational/skills classes and building big art for playa. In March our RCs and local burners helped to coordinate the BM Ops Summit, held at the Generator. Coming up May31-June2, is the Multi-Regional Summit, a weekend leadership campout with our regional neighbors in Lake Tahoe and Sacramento. June brought our Mutant Vehicle Show and Shine bringing over a dozen art cars and hundreds of attendees to the one-day outdoor show. Reno Burners LLC will again produce Reno Decompression, our only official art grant fundraiser, in October, moving back to the 4th St neighborhood. Many local art cars and Burners will bring their distinct style to the Nevada Day Parade, an annual tradition, at the end of October in Carson City.

We are thrilled to have the Burning Man Reno office in town and we continue to collaborate on projects including Share the Love valentine making to benefit troubled youth and the elderly.

Nevada – Las Vegas

Welcome to the fabulous Las Vegas region! There is a thriving community of artists here in the city of sin, and a very active Burner community. Projects are always coming out of the many studios and warehouses around town, several of which welcome volunteers. Come say “hi” at the weekly Burning Mondays meetup or connect with us in the Facebook group. We’ve always got something going on, like Burner spaghetti/taco nights, culture-jamming pub crawls, campouts, and… probably more, idk, what are YOU doing??

Multi-Regional Summit Leadership Conference

This is the eighth year of gatherings from Reno, Sacramento, Tahoe, as well as South Bay, East Bay, North Bay. We will be Meeting again at Scotts Flat Lake Campground near Nevada City, California. RoBurn (Romania)

ROBURN III-rd Edition 25th of July – 1st of August   Where in 2022? As we seek diversity, this time the annual regional edition is held in Soveja, a central-eastern recreational county in Vrancea in the Curvature Carpathians with picturesque landscapes, mountains & rich fauna.   What is RoBurn actually?  RoBurn is not a typical festival, it is a concept produced responsibly by all its contributors and artists through participation, involvement and loads of fun.   What does RoBurn entails? The experience is based on gifting, extraordinary happenings and several other principles which we are frequently reminding you of just to make sure they already are an integral part of you as they are for us. If you are new to this, do really not worry, we are radical inclusive, which means everyone is accepted and seen for who they are.   A couple of historical facts about the movement… The first event was inaugurated in 1986 by Larrey Harvey & Jerry James in San Francisco. It had been held annually in Black Rock Desert in Nevada since and other adjacent regional communities in various countries around the globe established their own unique artistic projects.   What about funding? The RoBurn Membership is the way to fund the budget we need for infrastructure and art projects. If you have your RoBurn Membership still active from previous editions, it will be automatically renewed. Check it out right over here ⬇️⬇️⬇️ https://www.ro-burn.com/account/my-subscriptions   Wanna have your own camp/artistic project?  That’s fabulous news.   ☄️Subscribe your camp idea on ro-burn.com using the form on the home page.   ☄️Subscribe your art project at romania@burningman.org, we have 3 art grants x 500 €.   ☄️Apply for the production departments using the form on the home page. It can be at the gate, in the movement, in the communication, and in many other departments.   ‼️You need to subscribe till 1st of July 2022‼️ https://www.ro-burn.com/

Australia – Cairns and Tropical North

Situated in a very beautiful part of tropical North Queensland Australia, the Cairns region offers a year round lifestyle of relaxed tropical living, which is conducive of both outdoor and indoor activities year round!

It has a thriving local arts scene, which is supported by Local, State and Federal government art programs that directly support the Arts in all areas.

Also, adding to the tapestry of Cairns arts support is Arts Nexus, which is an arts organisation helping artists and journalists, which is now based in Babinda, just south of Cairns, though still serves the region helping artists.

Like all parts of the world the region is coming out of 2 1/2 years of COVID since March 2020.

Before COVID, there was the 10 year residential Arts community Project called Digger Street, which has sadly concluded, that hosted a living urban community built around the 10 principles.

This community hosted a number of urban burn events, at the time of the Main Burn in Nevada, with a real mini effigy burn happening in the back yard on the Saturday evening, which was followed the next day on Sunday afternoon (due to time zone differences) of a live stream of the Saturday Nevada burn, projected onto a screen.

There have also been a few burner bar nights around town, although the relatively low population of the area and its transient tourist nature, have made it difficult to sustain these activities. Although Burners are doers and those willing to participate in putting on nights and activities in the future, please be bold, step up and do whatever, as the door is wide open to those with interest to instigate and organise going ons.

It doesn't necessarily have to be doing a gig or event. It could simply be a dinner (pot luck) for burners, an arts craft activity, a community garden, a reef or forest clean up or protection campaign. Your imagination is the limit!

We would be happy to assist in your interest to making your ideas for activities a reality.

Please contact the region and get in touch with this community by sending an email to northqld@burningman.org or joining the mailing list below.

January 2023.

Conflict Support Meta Regional Subcommittee

Mission Statement

The volunteer Conflict Support Meta Regional Subcommittee provides conflict support to the global Burning Man community by assisting with the resolution of disputes, complaints, accusations, and financial discrepancies within the Regional Network. Through collective effort, the subcommittee acts as a sounding board and an initiative/suggestion generator for groups in need. The subcommittee does not decide disputes or act as an arbiter. It assists local communities in their own conflict management and resolution efforts.
  • We meet monthly.
  • We support local resolution, not top-down results.
  • We share the work equally among committee members.
  • We seek impartiality and utilize point people without conflicts of interest or connections to any parties.  Committee members will recuse themselves when necessary.

Membership

Jackie Latendresse (Saskatchewan, Canada), Jon Groot (Chicago, Illinois), Scott “Scotto” Platsky (Phoenix, Arizona), Tiya Coleman (Las Vegas, Nevada), Jeff Reese (Salt Lake City, Utah), Kathleen Hoffman (Sacramento, California)
