Burners can be found throughout the state of Maine and there is an active burner community in the greater Portland area. Most events and meet-ups take place in southern Maine, though there are trips to various parts of the state periodically. Weekly meet and greets take place every Thursday evening in Portland and anyone is welcome to attend.
Maine was represented on the playa in the Circle of Regional Effigies in 2011 (Lobster Bisque-O!) and in 2012 (Happy as a Clam). Burners from Maine also attend Burning Man regional events including Firefly (New England Regional), Flipside (Texas Regional), and Play Del Fuego (Mid-Atlantic Regional).
Maine Burners participated in Portland’s First Friday Art Walk in November 2012 and displayed a scaled down version of the Burning Man CORE 2012 effigy. People were able to interact with the effigy and also view photos taken at both Burning Man and local gatherings in Maine. Other events have included multiple fundraisers for the CORE 2012 effigy, volunteering with a food bank, and trips to burner events in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
