Holidays are a time for family. For us NM burners, we are family. Let’s celebrate together this year on Thanksgiving weekend and enjoy our burner family and good food, fire, and fun. There are festivities planned for the whole 3 day weekend–come for one day or stay and retreat for the entire weekend! There will be plenty of camping space for tents, yurts, and trailers. This event is family friendly, so bring the little burners out too!
Weekend plan (loose, tentative, open to suggestions/modifications):
Thursday: Thanksburning Burning Pan–bring a burning pan of food to share and spend the day with us turkeys! Possible NM BICH summit meeting too, discussing our region and its doings.
Friday: Leftover consumption and effigy build day, plus local black Friday shopping in Madrid, enriching their local economy and supporting some awesome artists!
Saturday: Turkey sandwich picnic and guided hike to explore some local history, effigy finishing touches, and effigy burn at night!
Sunday: Clean up and depart, filled with gratitude and love!
We really would like to get an accurate headcount of who all will be attending, specifically those who wish to retreat for the weekend. Please RSVP that you’ll be coming, and we’ll put up a survey that asks everyone to select the day or days they plan on coming out. We’ll get actual directions out to all prior to the event.
The last stretch of road into the property is a doozy, so we will have a shuttle running to the bottom of the hill for those in little cars that might not be able to make it up. If you have an all-wheel drive vehicle or a truck you shouldn’t have any trouble.
We may have to cap attendance, especially for the overnights. Please RSVP early (even a maybe) so we can get a good estimate of how many to expect and accommodate for.
See you turkeys for Thanksburning!
